Katy is a Series and Podcast producer and has also been a producer and presenter of One in Five, Spectrum and New Zealand Society.

Katy began her broadcasting career at student radio in Christchurch, reading the news and playing Flying Nun records.

Fast-forward a few years (OK, make it 20 something) and she now presents and produces Thrift on RNZ National.

In between, Katy spent many years as a news journalist, covering numerous court cases, public meetings, industrial disputes, not to mention earthquakes. She was judged Individual Radio Journalist of the Year in 2009 and was a finalist again in 2013.

At RNZ Spoken Features she presented the Christchurch Story and the disability isues show, One in Five. In 2015 she won a Silver Award at the New York Festival Radio Awards for a documentary on teaching children with learning disabilities about puberty and sexuality.

Moving to podcasts, she has executive produced Deer Wars, Fair Game and contributed to Mr Lyttle Meets Mr Big as well as hosting Are We There Yet? and Fragments and co-presenting White Silence.

Fragments was judged Best Documentary or Factual Talk Feature at the NZ Radio Awards in 2022. White Silence won Gold at the New York Festival Radio Awards, Best News / Current Affairs Podcast at the NZ Radio Awards and Best Narrative Serial Podcast at the Voyager Media Awards in 2020. Deer Wars won Bronze at the New York Festival Radio Awards in 2024.

Along the way, Katy also worked in television, print, PR and publishing and lectured in journalism at the New Zealand Broadcasting School. She's also pulled a few pints, folded wontons in a takeaway joint and performed as a children's clown. (And can still twist a mean balloon animal!)

She's never found anyone who doesn't have a tale to tell and still feels excited when she hears a compelling piece of audio.
