Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday

The Situation

A weak cold front is moving northwards over the South Island is reaching Wellington this evening, then moves off to the north of the North Island on Saturday morning. A ridge is spreading over the South Island behind the weak front, and spreads over the North Island during Saturday.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland

Fine, apart from a few showers in the west overnight tonight.

Auckland to North Taranaki, including Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Taupo and Taumarunui

Fine, with areas of frost morning and night.

Gisborne and Hawke's Bay

Cloudy periods. Showers, mainly about and north of Wairoa, clearing tomorrow evening.

South Taranaki to Wellington, also Taihape and Wairarapa

Mostly fine. However, a few showers developing about Wellington, Wairarapa and South Taranaki this evening, then clearing tomorrow afternoon.

Marlborough, Nelson, Buller and Westland

Fine with areas of morning cloud and frost.

Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast

A few showers spreading northwards today, clearing to fine tomorrow morning.

Otago, Southland and Fiordland

Cloudy periods and isolated showers, clearing about Dunedin, North Otago and Central Otago tonight.

Chatham Islands

Showers developing this afternoon.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Sunday

Mainly fine for most. Isolated showers in the west from Taranaki to Wellington, and also for Buller, northern Westland, and the far south.

Monday

North Island: Mainly fine, apart from isolated showers. South Island: Isolated showers in the south, otherwise fine.

Tuesday

North Island: Fine, but isolated showers in the west. South Island: A few showers in the west, turning to rain in Fiordland later with scattered showers developing elsewhere in the south. Fine elsewhere.

And at the Chathams

Few showers and fresh to strong southwesterlies, both easing on Monday. Cloudy periods and isolated showers on Tuesday with westerlies.
