The Situation

The southwesterly flow over Aotearoa/New Zealand continues to ease today as a ridge of high pressure builds from the west.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland Auckland and Coromandel

Mainly fine, but a few showers about Northland spreading elsewhere this evening.

Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay

Mainly fine, with frosts possible tomorrow morning, then isolated showers from tomorrow afternoon.

Waikato to Kapiti Coast including central high country, also northern Wairarapa

A few showers spreading west today, possibly heavy from Waikato to Taranaki tomorrow afternoon.

Wellington, southern Wairarapa and Nelson

Mainly fine. Cloud about Wellington clearing today.

Marlborough, Canterbury, and Otago except Clutha

Fine today. Cloudy periods and isolated showers from tonight until tomorrow afternoon.

Buller and Westland

Cloud and isolated showers about Buller and northern Westland until tonight, otherwise fine.

Clutha, Southland and Fiordland

Mostly cloudy with a few showers, clearing Fiordland this evening and elsewhere tomorrow afternoon, then returning to Fiordland.

Chatham Islands

Showers easing later tomorrow.

Tuesday

North Island: Cloud increasing. Isolated showers in the west. South Island: Showers in the west, and isolated showers for Nelson and the Sounds. Rain developing in the far south. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Wednesday

North Island: Rain developing early, possibly heavy, easing late. South Island: Rain in Nelson and Marlborough. Showers in the west and south clearing. Partly cloudy elsewhere.

Thursday

North Island: Cloudy with showers for most, but fine in the east. South Island: Showers in the west and for Southland, clearing later. Fine elsewhere.

Friday

North Island: Partly cloudy in the west, fine elsewhere. South Island: Rain developing in Fiordland and Westland, spreading to Southland later. Fine elsewhere.

And at the Chathams

Cloudy periods and the odd shower with northwesterlies strengthening on Wednesday. Rain developing on Thursday, then clearing on Friday with a change to southwesterlies.
